In his statement about the George Floyd protests, Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki says, “After watching Henry Louis Gates’ Reconstruction, I was left with the same feeling I had when I visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Each should be required viewing as a prerequisite for American citizenship because it is clear that unless one is fully informed about the experience of African Americans in this country, one can never have a complete understanding of American history.”

PBS broadcasts Apograph’s The Man Who Tried To Feed The World, a biography of Norman Borlaug. Although largely forgotten now, Borlaug was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the “Green Revolution” of the late 1960s. This transformation of the world’s agriculture fundamentally altered the course of humanity, for better and for worse.

We begin production of a documentary about Marian Anderson, the African American singer who sang a historic concert at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939, after being banned from Washington’s only concert hall because of her race. Her story puts a lens on the freedom struggle in the first decades of the 20th century.
